as a new breed of communications agency.

Ben’s goal has been to embrace technology and modern thinking to mould a proactive team with entrepreneurial vision that delivers stunning work for clients.

Area 213 consists of a core team of best-in-class specialists. By keeping our numbers low, we get to know our clients and their business problems, and build trust to the point that we’re the go-to solutions agency for any problem, no matter how left-field. We’ve even been asked to design a new office in the past!

To deliver the best work, we embrace top class freelancers. No agency can be the best at everything, and we don’t make that claim. If we can’t do it with our in-house gurus, we’ll make use of a trusted freelancer from our network to get the job done.

Our Approach

The best ad in the world will fail if the product you’re selling is broken, but every agency has to sell ads or communications to be successful. In response, we’ve brought a management consultant in-house to understand your business better.

We believe that if we don’t have this understanding, we can’t deliver creative solutions. In fact, the solution might not be creative at all. The answer might be developing a new product, killing an existing one, increasing your sales force, or even cutting marketing spend.

BEN WREN

Founder & Managing Director

Ben worked at advertising agencies in London for several years before relocating to Cape Town. He’s worked on blue-chip clients like Microsoft and been involved in global award-winning work with Nike at Wieden+Kennedy. He’s equally excited by small, intimate projects, which enable an agency like Area 213 to make a real difference in the trajecetory of a business’ fortunes.

ANDRE LE ROUX

Strategy Director

A strategist passionate about the science behind our behaviours, Andre has been actively involved in advertising for over 15 years, focusing on the strategy brands employ. In this time, he has worked on multiple blue chip national and international brands, crafting detailed fact-based strategy designed to impact a business’ bottom line. A systemic thinker with a gift for complex problem solving, Andre has even patented his own strategic methodology which he uses to help brands in an increasingly complex world.

MATTHEW SCHULZ

BUSINESS PARTNER

Matthew cut his teeth in digital marketing at South Africa’s largest media entity, Media24. Next, he founded a digital marketing start-up with two partners and took the company from a staff complement of three to a team well over forty.

Looking for his next challenge, Matthew joined Area 213 International to look after key clients top to bottom, manage the in-house team and liaise with external suppliers.

EDWARD LOVE

Editor-in-Chief

Edward studied English at the University of Cape Town before entering the advertising business, first with the in-house brand of one of the country’s largest retailers, then at Saatchi & Saatchi. He followed this with a two-year stint at a digital media brand where he learnt the art of managing a team.

Passionate about the written word, Edward actively writes business-interest stories for magazines around the world, and reviews games and films for Canadian website We Got This Covered. He’s recently finished a book, which he hopes to see published soon.
